Happening Now – Hepburn Community Wind Farm

Hepburn Wind is Australia’s first community-owned wind farm. Our project, comprising two turbines on Leonards Hill in Central Victoria, has shown that it is possible for rural communities to directly benefit from local community energy enterprises.

hepburn-1From 2008 – 2010, almost 2000 people pooled their resources to build a two-turbine wind farm that generates pollution-free electricity, equivalent to the annual needs of more than 2000 homes. Hepburn Wind has won many awards, including the 2011 Victorian Premier’s Sustainability Award and the 2012 World Wind Energy Award. The project has inspired many other communities around Australia to embark on the journey to build their own locally-owned renewable energy projects.
